CLAIMSÂ BY the American animal rights group PETA, that a vegetarian diet is good for your sex life have been dismissed by a leading Italian sex doctor.
Nicola Mondaini, medical director at St. Maria Annunziata in Florence, told the Italian press that eating your greens was not always good for you.
He said that vegetarianism could lead to a deficiency of zinc, which is closely associated with the reduction of testosterone and depression of sexual stimulation.
Speaking at the Andrology Prevention Week, in Milan, Mondaini said that vegetarians did not necessarily eat the best food for health. Vegetables were all well and good but if you fried them you might as well be tucking into something that tasted nice.
Vegetarians are just as likely to have cardiovascular problems associated with cholesterol in the blood as meat eaters. Often cholesterol is associated with erectile dysfunction, he said.
Being Italian he thinks that the best thing to follow is the Mediterranean diet which tends to increase testosterone, control cholesterol and anti-oxidants. It allows meat, pasta, tomatos and olive oil but is light on carbohyrates like spuds or fried food.
