Extends World Cup lead
Posted by Agencies at 10:52 AM GMT on Mar 12, 2009 | ARE (AFP): Norway's Aksel Lund Svindala finished in second place in the men's Super-G today, consolidating his overall World Cup lead.
The Norwegian finished the Super-G 0.07 seconds behind Italy's Werner Heel's time of 1min 13.41 seconds, with another Italian, Christof Innerhofer, in third at 0.20 seconds.
Svindal, who won Wednesday's downhill here, extended his lead over Austrian Benjamin Raich to 102 points.
But third-placed Didier Cuche of Switzerland has fallen out of the reckoning after only managing to finish 15th in the Super-G, 1.20 seconds off the pace.
Svindal's rival for the Super-G globe, Austrian Herman Maier, the discipline's leader up until the Are meet, and Switzerland's Didier Defago both bombed here after placing 17th and 8th.
