The Leith police dismisseth us
Posted by by our Health Correspondent at 11:45 AM GMT on Mar 02, 2009 | A PURITANICAL minority Scottish Government has laid down the law by delivering a number of measures – no not spirit measures – to cut down on people getting more than one sheet to the wind.
It is going to ban discount deals on booze and will introduce a minimum price per unit.
The Scottish National Party, which obviously isn’t very keen on a party, refrained from raising the age you can buy drink from off licences to 21, although local puritans will have the power to do that.
The Scottish government reckons booze abuse costs the country £2.25 billion in health and lost work days.
Fiona Murray, director of the Scottish Retail Consortium, told the BBC: “We need to develop solutions that educate rather than alienate.” We’re not sure you can buy that sort of solution in an off licence, and certainly not at a discount.
Other partiiesh attacked the meashure, shaying that theresh nothing wrong with an occashionul dram or three, and we Scotsh should be proud of our nashional heritage. Shcotland ish famoush for the line polishe made drunksh deliver - The Leish polish dishmissush ush. Hic.
