More newspapers give up the ghost

Will it ever end?

Posted by Gutar Wotch at 09:23 AM GMT on Mar 24, 2009

A NUMBER of newspapers in Michigan will go online rather than stay in print, leaving William Caxton to his own devices in favour of pixellation.

Very unhappy looking Dodo (courtesy Wikipedia)Newspaper group Advance Publications is to print the last edition of the Ann Arbor News in July and replace it with a web site. The newspaper has a daily circulation of 45,000 and is a venerable old dear of 174 years old. The replacement website won’t be fully staffed either – the publishers want it to be a mix of news and contributions from locals in the community.

The same newspaper group will cut down publication of three other dailies in the state to three days a week.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the Detroit Free Press and the Detroit News will also cut their print editions to just a few days a week.
