Lockheed Martin joins Juniper IP development programme

Extending the boundaries of networking innovation with the 'Power of One'

Lockheed Martin has joined the Juniper Networks Open IP Solution Development Programme (OSDP).

Juniper will provide Lockheed with access to the advanced Partner Solution Development Platform (PSDP), which facilitates the creation of specialised applications using JUNOS software. PSDP comprises a comprehensive set of resources, including a Software Development Kit (SDK) with intelligent and secure interfaces to JUNOS routing and service functions.

"PSDP takes all the 'Power of One' – the single source code base, the single architecture and the single release train – and all the benefit that comes from it. PSDP widens the opportunity for innovation beyond Juniper to the community of users, third party developers, OEM's, systems integrators, and research institutions who are able to build applications on and for our JUNOS platforms," a Juniper spokesperson told The News. "We created the PSDP to extend the boundaries of networking innovation to well beyond the walls of Juniper labs - to partners with good ideas, regardless of where they are in the value chain."

The spokesperson also explained that PSDP allowed partners to add their own intellectual property "much closer" to the network.

"Instead of plugging a new device into the network in a serial fashion, for example, a partner (or customer) can create a differentiating application that has an intimate relationship with the control functions and data of the network – all on-network, on-router or switch or security device – without the need for a separate box, more rack space, power, training, and the need to qualify another appliance. JUNOS is a single operating system running routing, switching and security platforms," added the spokesperson.

Richard W. Skinner, a Lockheed VP, noted that Juniper would offer his company the "unique ability to add special customer features" to JUNOS software.

"Given our passion for innovation and the critical nature of our business, JUNOS with its inherent security and stability, provides a solid foundation for our defence applications that are designed to meet the specific requirements of the federal government," said Skinner.
