WHISTLER (AFP): France's Vincent Jay was the surprise winner of the men's World Cup 20km race.

The 23-year-old, whose previous best result was a 10th place, picked up no penalties on the shooting range to finish 19 seconds ahead of Germany's Daniel Boehm, with American Jeremy Teela 4.3 seconds further adrift.

It was only Boehm's second race on the circuit, and Teela's previous best was ninth.
