Iran warns of hopeless "quagmire" if attacked

Equipment is just "one dimension of military power"

A SENIOR IRANIAN military official has warned that hostile countries will encounter an "endless quagmire" and incur heavy casualties during a war with the Islamic republic.

"Of course, given the damage assessment carried out by the enemy for the war on Iran, it avoids adoption of such a measure," general Mohammad Hejazi told the government-controlled FARS News.

"The reason that the enemies have not been able to do military action against Iran is their acquaintance with the issue [Iran's power. The enemy may be more advanced than us in their equipment but equipment is just one dimension of military power and the spirit and tactic are more important than equipment."

The general also discussed the "victory" of Hizballah and Hamas "against Israel's powerful army, using light and uncomplicated weapons."

"Military equipment is important, but meantime, they are not decisive," said Hejazi.

Hejazi predicted that the "type of threats against Iran will change" as the Obama administration planned to level "more economic, political and security pressures against Iran."

"We never rule out military threats [against Iran] although they [the enemies] do not view military action as a practical option against Iran, as they are clearly aware of the Iranian armed forces' preparedness," added Hejazi.
