THE CHAIRMAN of Intel, Doctor Craig Barrett, has decided to spend more time with his fishing and his dude ranch as the chip giant said he will retire in May.
Barrett, who has worked for Intel for 35 years, and was CEO between 1998 and 2005. He is known for his love of fishing and for horses. During his tenure as CEO, the firm made many many acquisitions and Barrett had as his badge of honour the phrase "building blocks".
Intel has a very serious succession programme in place, and people will be wondering who will succeed him as chairman. The current CEO, Paul Otellini, is the most likely prospect, seeing as his retirement as CEO is not so far away.
Otellini described Barrett as the industry's senior statesman and ambassador. He has also pushed hard for the role of education in America. Barrett''s wife, Barbara, is also something of a celebrity. George W. Bush made her the ambassador for Finland, which has great fishing.
