But he still faces a charge of affray
Posted by Agencies at 11:32 AM GMT on Mar 20, 2009 | SOUTHPORT (AFP): A charge of assault against Liverpool and England footballer Steven Gerrard over the infamous nightclub brawl was dropped at a court hearing today.
But Gerrard, Liverpool's captain, still faces a charge of affray, which could see him jailed for up to six months and/or fined up to 5,000 pounds (5,300 euros, 7,200 dollars) if he is found guilty.
The England midfielder, 28, appeared in court at North Sefton Magistrates' Court in Southport, northwest England facing charges in relation to a fight in the town in which a 34-year-old man lost a tooth and suffered a cut face.
The incident took place during a night out in December last year when Gerrard was celebrating Liverpool's 5-1 defeat of Newcastle United.
