British American Tobacco reports profits up

There’s no smoke without cigarettes

TOBACCO combine British American Tobacco (BAT) said its profits were up 23 per cent for its financial year ending 31st December 2008.

The company turned in revenues of £12,122 million and profits of £3,572 million. Revenues were up 21 per cent.

Fags. Image from BAT's siteBAT said the increase in revenue was a result of better pricing, a better product mix, acquistions of Tekel and Skandinavisk Tobakskompagni as well as favourable exchange rates.

BAT will pay out a final divident of 61.6 pence on the 6th of May 2009. Chairman Jan du Plessis said that BAT was aware of the possibilities of downtrading.

“Our well balanced portfolio of brands covers all major price points, while our geographic diversity further mitigates the risks for shareholders.”
